Challenge Accepted. The Path to the Pro Tour Starts Here.
The Star City Games Regional Championship Qualifier (RCQ) is the entry point into the highest level of competitive Magic: The Gathering play in the United States. This is a premier, structured tournament designed to test your deck-building skills, your in-game execution, and your mental fortitude over multiple rounds of Swiss play, where the top finisher earns an invitation to the next Regional Championship (RC). These Regional Championships, hosted by Star City Games (SCG) at large SCG CON events, feature significant prize pools ($100,000+) and are the final step before the prestigious Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour.
Competitive Format: RCQs are usually held in one of Magic's major constructed formats (like Pioneer, Modern, or Standard), or as a Limited event (Sealed Deck or Draft). Players must bring a complete, legal deck (with a 15-card sideboard) and submit a decklist prior to the start of play.
Structured Play: The tournament follows a series of Swiss rounds based on attendance, followed by a cut to a Top 8/4 single-elimination playoff. Expect a full day of high-level competition and intense match-ups.
Prize Support & Promos: In addition to prize payouts (often store credit or cash), RCQs offer exclusive promotional cards provided by Wizards of the Coast. Participants often receive a unique promo just for playing, while top finishers and the ultimate winner receive highly sought-after, often foil, versions of these promos.
The Invitation: The primary prize is the invitation to the Regional Championship. Winning an RCQ confirms your seat at a massive, destination-level tournament, placing you directly on the path to the Pro Tour and the Magic: The Gathering World Championship.
RCQs are where competitive players prove their mastery, validate their strategies, and chase their dreams of professional play. Our next event will be in April so stay tuned for details!
